چکیده

Selecting regularization parameters in penalized high-dimensional graphical models in a principled, data-driven, and computationally efficient manner continues to be one of the key challenges in high-dimensional statistics. We present substantial computational gains and conceptual generalizations of the Stability Approach to Regularization Selection (StARS), a state-of-the-art graphical model selection scheme. Using properties of the Poisson-Binomial distribution and convex nonasymptotic distributional modeling we propose lower and upper bounds on the StARS graph regularization path which results in greatly reduced computational cost without compromising regularization selection. We also generalize the StARS criterion from single edge to induced subgraph (graphlet) stability. We show that simultaneously requiring edge and graphlet stability leads to superior graph recovery performance independent of graph topology. These novel insights render Gaussian graphical model selection a routine task on standard multi-core computers.

Tied and Regularized Conditional Gaussian Graphical Models for Acoustic Modeling in ASR

Most automatic speech recognition (ASR) systems express probability densities over sequences of acoustic feature vectors using Gaussian or Gaussian-mixture hiddenMarkov models. In this chapter, we explore how graphical models can help describe a variety of tied (i.e., parameter shared) and regularized Gaussian mixture systems. Unlike many previous such tied systems, however, here we allow sub-p...

A Generic Path Algorithm for Regularized Statistical Estimation.

Regularization is widely used in statistics and machine learning to prevent overfitting and gear solution towards prior information. In general, a regularized estimation problem minimizes the sum of a loss function and a penalty term. The penalty term is usually weighted by a tuning parameter and encourages certain constraints on the parameters to be estimated. Particular choices of constraints...

New Applications on Linguistic Mathematical Structures and Stability Analysis of Linguistic Fuzzy Models

In this paper some algebraic structures for linguistic fuzzy models are defined for the first time. By definition linguistic fuzzy norm, stability of these systems can be considered. Two methods (normed-based & graphical-based) for stability analysis of linguist fuzzy systems will be presented. At the follow a new simple method for linguistic fuzzy numbers calculations is defined. At the end tw...

Post-selection inference for l1-penalized likelihood models

According to the article[2], we present a new method for post-selection inference for l1(lasso)penalized likelihood models, including generalized regression models. Our approach generalizes the post-selection framework presented in Lee et al. (2013)[1]. The method provides P-values and confidence intervals that are asymptotically valid, conditional on the inherent selection done by the lasso. W...

The effect of boundary conditions on the accuracy and stability of the numerical solution of fluid flows by Lattice-Boltzmann method

The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of boundary conditions on the accuracy and stability of the numerical solution of fluid flows in the context of single relaxation time Lattice Boltzmann method (SRT-LBM). The fluid flows are simulated using regularized, no-slip, Zou-He and bounce back boundary conditions for straight surfaces in a lid driven cavity and the two-dimensional flow ...
